(Robinson) — Three Lincoln Trail College athletic teams have been honored by the NJCAA for their work in the classroom. The softball team is a 2016-17 Honorable Mention Academic Team of the Year. The Lady Statesmen had a team GPA of 3.50, which was the 13th best among all softball teams in the country. The baseball team was also named a 2016-17 Honorable Mention Academic Team of the Year. The Statesmen had a team GPA of 3.29, which was the 19th best among all baseball teams in the country. The volleyball team finished with a team GPA of 3.12 and also was named a 2016-17 Honorable Mention Academic Team of the Year.
The softball team had two players, Lexi Aders and Tessa Laino, named First Team Academic All-Americans. Baseball players Taylor Lepard, Keaton Sackett, and Shamus Segersten were also First Team Academic All-Americans along with volleyball players Sydney Strange and Haley Towle. To earn the honors, a student-athlete had to have a perfect 4.0 GPA. Three softball players, Sadie Baugh, Shyloh Hearn, and Ariel Povlin, along with baseball player Brad Busald, earned Second Team Academic All-American honors. That achievement requires a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99. Third Team awards went to baseball players Corey Chambliss, Kaleb Huxford, Jackson Niehaus, Layne Peavler, Adnan Sator, and Nate Thomas, softball players Adriana Duvall and Brei Followell and volleyball player Emily Nehls. Third Team awards go to student athletes with a 3.60-3.79 GPA.
