(Oblong) – Classes will be back in session at all Oblong schools today following an “Emergency Dismissal” yesterday. Early yesterday morning staff at the Oblong Grade School were alerted to a malfunction of the schools fire alarm system due to a power surge. Out of an abundance of caution Superintendent Jeff Patchett made the decision to dismiss the students at 11am. According to Patchett a technician from Indianapolis arrived at the school yesterday afternoon and had the system back up and running in about an hour. Patchett says that he could not be more proud of how everyone, from the students and staff to parents, grandparents and guardians handled the early dismissal. Everything went off without a hitch. Patchett also extends a big thank you to the Oblong Police and Fire Departments for their assistance yesterday. First responders where on hand to make sure that the dismissal process was safe and orderly.
