(Undated) – The Fourth of July weekend is around the corner and local law enforcement agencies are reminding drivers that they will be out in force during the holiday. According to the Illinois State Police DUI remains the number one cause of fatal crashes during the Independence Day weekend. Approximately sixty four percent of those involved in fatal traffic crashes are not properly restrained. Seat-belt use is the simplest measure occupants can take to help survive a crash. Statistics show, those occupants who stay inside the vehicle during a crash are much more likely to survive. Law enforcement agencies across the state will be taking part in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign through the July 4th holiday.
