Statesmen Men Suffer First Loss of the Season

Despite an effort of holding the NJCAA’s Second Leading Scorer, Javonte Perkins under his season average, the Lincoln Trail Statesmen lost a tough one, 88-84 to Southwestern Illinois at Belleville on Saturday. The Statesmen trailed by 11 at halftime before tying the game at 60. After the tie, Southwestern went on an 8-0 run and took control for much of the rest of the game. Lincoln Trail was within 2 at 86-84 with 25.9 seconds left when Southwestern hit 2 free throws to ice the game.

Even though it was a loss, Head Coach Luke Stuckey said that it was the best he had seen his team play in a half.

Lincoln Trail is now 7-1 on the year and is back in action Wednesday on the road at Ivy Tech.
