(Undated) – The kids are in school now, but soon it will be summer and many of those kids will lose the only source of nutritious food. According to the Illinois State Board of Education, the “Summer Food Service Program” needs partners in 33 Illinois counties, including here in Crawford County, to fill gaps in access to healthy meals. The Summer Foods Program provides nutritious meals to children, age 18 and younger, during the summer months in low-economic areas when school is not in session. School districts, local governments, and nonprofits can become sponsors and set up serving sites. Those interested in becoming SFSP sponsors should contact the Illinois State Board of Education at (800) 545-7892. To learn more follow the link.
