VPD Officer Suspended Following Abuse Arrest

(Vincennes, In) – The Vincennes Police Officer arrested on charges of child abuse has been suspended indefinitely without pay. Robert Hammond was arrested on November 1st on multiple charges including neglect of a dependent and strangulation. According to court documents Hammond and his wife, Kristi, used a wooden spoon and metal spatula to strike Kristi’s child. They are also accused of locking the child outside and using duct tape as a restraint on multiple occasions. The Vincennes Police Merit Commission discussed the case and has opted to place Hammond on indefinite suspension without pay. He has 30 days to appeal the decision.
