(Vincennes) – If you are still trying to figure out how you want to ring in the New Year, you might consider heading to Vincennes for one of the most unique New Year’s Eve celebrations in the nation. The 12th annual National Watermelon Drop is planned for New Year’s Eve at Patrick Henry Square in downtown Vincennes. The festivities will begin at 9 pm Indiana time and continue until just after midnight on New Year’s Day. The Watermelon Drop’s highlight is the dropping of watermelons onto the “splatform” at midnight. This year, 20 melons will be dropped, in celebration of 2020. After the watermelons come down, fireworks will go up to celebrate the New Year.
