(Palestine) – Following a string of mail thefts in Palestine recently, Palestine Police Chief, Jeff Besing, is reminding residents to be alert and call 911 if you see something suspicious.
According to Besing one of the incidents of theft happened when the residents were gone for the weekend. So he suggests talking to a trusted neighbor or friend and having them collect your mail for you if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time. Besing also reminds those that are perpetrating these crimes, that tampering with the mail is a federal offense and is punishable with significant fines and time in federal prison.
