(Undated) – An area student is taking home a statewide honor. Red Hill High School’s Lydia Higgins has won the annual Congressional Art Competition in Illinois’ 15th District. The competition has been hosted each year by Congressman, John Shimkus. Higgins took the title with her art display “War Paints.” The oil painting is of a girl dealing with the current problems in the world. The display will join other Congressional art winners in the tunnel connecting the House with the Cannon Office Building. Higgins also has the distinction of being the last art contest winner crowned by Shimkus. The Congressman is stepping down from his Congressional seat after this year.
