Fate of the 2020 Basketball Season Still Unclear

(Undated) – The fate of the 2020 High School basketball season is far from clear. Despite an order from the Governor’s Office and the IDPH the IHSA says High School basketball will be played this fall. Governor, J.B Pritzker says districts who defy released guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health regarding winter sports may take on “legal liability.” IHSA Executive Director, Craig Anderson, says that is something that local school boards will have to take into consideration.
The Illinois State Board of Education released a statement last night that says “defying the state’s public health guidance opens up schools to liability and other ramifications that may negatively impact school communities.” The IHSA says practices can begin November 16th with games starting on November 30th. Masks will be required by all players, coaches, and officials during play. A determination on fans will be made at the November IHSA board meeting.
