Use Caution and Stay Safe on Winter Roads

winter-driving

(Undated) – We received our first measurable snowfall of the winter season overnight and local authorities are reminding drivers of some things to keep in mind while traveling on winter roads. Stay alert, slow down, and stay in control. Leave at least one and a half car lengths between you and the vehicle in front of you. Pump your brakes gently when slowing or stopping. If you start to slide, take your foot off of the gas and allow the vehicle to slow and lightly pump the brakes. When sliding remember to “turn into the slide.” If you do slide off the road, put your emergency flashers on, stay in your car, and call 911. If you are following or approaching a road plow truck, slow down to give them room to work, and never try to pass.
