(Undated) – If you want a historical guarantee of a white Christmas, then you will have to move out of Illinois. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Minnesota, Maine, Upstate New York, Idaho, and of course, the Rockies are a few of the parts of the Lower 48 where weather history suggests you’ll want to be if you’re looking for a white Christmas. Despite the snowfall last night, the chance of having a white Christmas in our area is about 10-15 percent. There has to be at least an inch of snow on the ground for it to be considered a “white Christmas.” NOAA has put together a map that shows the historical probability of at least an inch of snow on Christmas across the nation.
