(Undated) – Student-athletes across the state will be back on the hardwood and gridiron soon. In a move that was a surprise to many, the IDPH and Governor, JB Pritzker, cleared the way for sports to return during yesterday’s press conference. Following meetings with the state, the Illinois High School Association announced that high-risk sports in areas that have improved from “Tier 1” to “Phase Four” can conduct games within their conference and regions. While that’s a big step in the right direction, only three areas in Illinois are in “Phase Four.” They include Region 3, Region 5, and Region 6, which includes Crawford County. It’s unknown if the IHSA will start the basketball season immediately, which is what the current schedule calls for, or if basketball will be pushed back to spring. Football is scheduled to start on February 15th. The IHSA will set new season dates after Wednesday’s board meeting.
