High School Sports Returning Soon

(Undated) – The lights of the gridiron may be on very soon once again across Illinois. Friday the state cleared the way for sports to return in those regions that have improved to “Phase 4” of the Restore Illinois Plan. Region 6, which includes Crawford County, is now in “Phase 4.” According to the state, teams can conduct games within their conference and regions. It’s unknown if the IHSA, the group that governs highs school sports in the state, will start the basketball season immediately, which is what the current schedule calls for, or if basketball will be pushed back to spring. Football is scheduled to start on February 15th. However, a definitive plan will not be released until after the IHSA sets new season dates during their Wednesday board meeting. Schools say they now need to figure out how to play all the sports they can before school ends in just 21 weeks.
