(Sullivan, IN) – Sullivan County Sheriff, Clark Cottom, introduced the County’s newest “Deputy” last week. According to Cottom, it has been almost a decade since the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office had a K-9, but thanks to local donations, that’s about to change. The Sheriff’s Office introduced “Ace” last week. “Ace” is a nine-month-old Belgian Malinois, who will be partnered with Deputy, Justin Copeland. Deputy Copeland has been with the department since 2017. Before joining the Sheriff’s Office he was a K-9 handler at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility. Cottom says that adding a K-9 to the Sheriff’s Office will be a huge asset, and while there will be additional expenses, most will be offset by donations from the community. Cottom says that Deputy Copeland and “Ace” will graduate school and be on the road by early summer.
