Utility Shutoff Moratorium Ending This Month

(Undated) – Many continue to struggle to catch up amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and are pushing for an extension of the utility shutoff moratorium. Currently, the Illinois Commerce Commission has an end date of April 1st. Those who are not up-to-date on their utility bills could be shut off or disconnected as early as next month. An ending of the moratorium also means any cases currently submitted through the court system would then proceed to start next week. The State of Illinois has had a shutoff moratorium in place since March of 2020. Customers who need assistance may be eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The LIHEAP application period is open until June 20th, 2021, or until funding is exhausted. To learn more follow the link with this story at WTYEfm.com.
