(Sullivan, In) – A Pimento, Indiana man was arrested Tuesday after smashing glass at a Terre Haute bank and stealing a car. According to Sullivan County Sheriff, Clark Cottom, just after 2 pm Tuesday, Vigo County central dispatch received a 911 call from First Farmers Bank on US 41 south in Terre Haute. Bank employees reported an unruly white male inside the bank lobby, smashing glass. The male was apparently expressing displeasure because the bank had declined to cash a suspicious-looking check. Before authorities from adjoining agencies could arrive, the suspect fled on foot and stole a car from a nearby shopping center. Following an hour-long investigation, authorities apprehended thirty-one-year-old Lucas Vilchuck. Vilchuck was arrested and transported to the Vigo County Jail, where he was charged with felony Check Fraud, felony Auto Theft, and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Sheriff Cottom reports the stolen vehicle was returned to the grateful owner. Vilchuck, who was out on bond at the time of this incident, is currently being held on no bond.
