(Undated) – If you are like many of us you’re either done with or are working on putting up Christmas decorations. Festive celebrations, flickering lights, and winter greens are hallmarks of the holiday season, but they also present fire risks that can quickly turn devastating. According to the National Fire Protection Association, between 2015-2019, U.S. fire departments responded to an average of one-hundred-sixty home fires per year that started with Christmas trees. U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of seven-hundred-ninety home structure fires per year that began with decorations, other than Christmas trees. Year-round, more than one-third or about thirty-five percent of home decoration fires were started by candles.
