Red Cross Declares National Blood Crisis

(Undated) — The American Red Cross says it is facing its worst blood shortage in more than a decade and has declared the first-ever national blood crisis. According to the Red Cross, the low blood supply levels have forced some hospitals to defer patients from major surgery, including organ transplants. The Red Cross is pulling out all the stops in a desperate call for donors amid this historic blood shortage. Anyone who rolls up their sleeves this month will have a chance to win tickets to the Super Bowl in Los Angeles. Other prizes include entry to the official NFL Tailgate, three nights free in a hotel, and a 500-dollar gift card for game-day food. They say blood and platelet donations for all blood types are needed, especially type O and they are asking healthy individuals of all blood types to give as soon as possible.
