(Undated) – We may see some record-high gas prices this Memorial Day weekend. According to GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick DeHaan, for the fifth straight week, the nation’s average gas price has gone up, rising eight cents from a week ago to $4.60 per gallon. DeHaan says gasoline prices surged over the last week to new record highs and with more Americans planning to hit the road for Memorial Day this year compared to last, demand could drive prices even higher. As of right now, prices will be over $1.50 per gallon higher than last year and will be at their highest Memorial Day level ever. The statewide average in Illinois is a penny below the $5 a gallon mark. Gas is $4.59 a gallon in Indiana.
