(Robinson) – A staple of the July 4th weekend in Robinson has been a carnival. However, Robinson Park and Recreation Superintendent, Mike Shimer, says carnivals are becoming fewer and farther between.

Shimer says the few remaining carnivals focus on areas where they can maximize their profits.

Shimer says despite not having a carnival, they have worked to put together a fun July 4th weekend. He says events will include the annual Firecrackers Softball Tournament beginning tomorrow. Sunday at 7 pm the Robinson Community Band, led by Chris Jansen, will perform at Cross Street Station. Then on Monday the 4th the city will host their annual “old fashion” free will donation hotdog cookout from 5 pm-7 pm at the pavilion at the City Park. The Jake Hoult Band will be the featured entertainment Monday evening from 7 pm – 9:15 pm. Fireworks will happen at 9:30 pm on the Fourth.
