Effingham Judge Issues Restraining Order in Weapons Ban Debate

court-2

(Undated) — The fight over the state’s assault weapons ban continues. Effingham County Judge, Joshua Morrison, issued a temporary restraining order on Friday. According to his ruling, the state didn’t “follow the procedural requirements” in passing the “Protect Illinois Communities Act.” The order would only apply to more than the 850 defendants in the case. The decision is part of a lawsuit filed in Effingham County last week by Tom DeVore. The law puts a limit on the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines and bans devices that allow semiautomatic weapons to fire rounds automatically. Those opposing the measure say it violates their Second Amendment rights. Democratic Governor, JB Pritzker, remains confident the law will be upheld.
