(Oblong) – A previously unmarked mass grave in the Oblong Cemetery is set to receive a marker thanks to “54 Oblong.”
That was “54 Oblong” representative, David Hasty. Hasty says as many as seventy people are buried in the unmarked mass grave. He says the grave was a result of an epidemic that hit the community in the winter of 1872-1873. Oblong Cemetery Trustee, Gary Lanter, proposed the grant project to “54 Oblong” for the historical marker. Hasty says the dedication of the marker will likely be in the Spring.
