National Average for Gas Continues to Climb

By Tony Collins Sep 12, 2023 | 6:35 AM

(Undated) — After falling for two straight weeks, the nation’s average price for gas has increased, rising four cents from a week ago to $3.82 per gallon. According to GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick De Haan, the national average was pulled higher by price spikes in the Corn Belt and refinery snags on the coast. De Haan says there is some good news for those in the hardest-hit states as gasoline prices should start to level off and even decline. De Haan says with most of the nation switching back to cheaper “winter gasoline” this weekend, we should see price decreases for most of the nation in the weeks ahead. The statewide average here in Illinois is $3.97. It’s $3.69 in Indiana.
