Drive Safe During Holiday Travel

(Undated) – Authorities across the state are reminding drivers as they plan to head “over the river and through the woods” for Christmas, stay safe. Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of injury and death in the U.S., and traffic crashes are largely preventable. Drivers are reminded if you are celebrating with alcohol or cannabis, make sure to use a designated driver. Before starting your holiday road trip, make sure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up. Also, be sure to eliminate distractions. Looking at a cell phone for five seconds at 55 mph is like driving blind for the length of a football field. Drivers are also reminded to watch for flashing lights on the side of the road. Scott’s Law requires motorists to slow down or move over when approaching a vehicle with flashing lights on the side of the road.
