(Undated) – More than 150 new laws went into effect in Illinois yesterday. Workers in the state will now be earning up to 40 hours of paid leave in 12 months. The statewide minimum wage increases to $14 an hour. Another Illinois law prevents public and school libraries from banning books. Electronic cigarettes are now banned from being used in indoor public spaces. To increase road safety, a new law makes it illegal to Zoom, watch or stream videos, or access social media sites while driving. Law enforcement will be allowed to monitor special events and parades with surveillance drones. However, the drones are prohibited from carrying weapons or facial recognition software.
