(Oblong) – A previously unmarked mass grave in the Oblong Cemetery is unmarked no longer. The memorial stone in honor of the approximately 70 victims of a deadly winter epidemic that struck Oblong in 1872-1873 was set in place last week. Oblong Cemetery Trustee, Gary Lanter, proposed the grant project for the memorial stone to the not-for-profit community organization “54 Oblong.” According to Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, plans are being made to dedicate the monument during Oblong’s 2024 Memorial Day Ceremony.
