No Need to Let Your Car “Warm Up”

(Undated) – With the current bitterly cold temperatures in the forecast most of us opt to let our car warm up before driving it. However, that is not mechanically necessary. According to the website Cars.com, you no longer need to warm up your car in winter, for your car’s sake, unless it’s old enough to have a carburetor, electric, or a plug-in hybrid. Without question, just a few decades ago warming up a car used to be necessary for two primary reasons related to the less sophisticated nature of both cars and motor oil. They say in most modern cars that are well maintained, 30 seconds is plenty of time to allow your car to “warm up.” The most important tip is not to accelerate too aggressively until the engine is fully up to temperature.
