(Oblong) – Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, has issued a public service announcement for all area pet owners. Fielder says coyote mating season is quickly approaching here in Illinois, peaking in late February or early March and she says this becomes an extremely dangerous time for pets. Fielder reminds pet owners not to let their dogs out alone, whether in town or the country, especially at night. Unspayed female dogs in season will attract male coyotes and unneutered male dogs can be lured away by the scent of female coyotes in heat. Male coyotes can become more aggressive during this time of year. Check out the full Facebook post for additional information and safety tips.
