Freezing Temps Cause Water Discoloration in Oblong

(Oblong) – If you are an Oblong water customer and you’ve noticed some discoloration in your water, it is “normal.” According to Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, this is a “normal” event, made worse by several days of no sunshine and below-zero temperatures, which causes ice to form in the water tower. With a few days of sunshine and warmer temperatures, the ice breaks up and falls which stirs up natural sediment in the tank. Oblong Public Works assures everyone that the water is still clean as there are no outside contaminants. The tower is designed, under normal circumstances, to capture the sediment but with the ice falling to the bottom it gets stirred up. However, they say if you are experiencing water discoloration, you might want to refrain from washing clothes until the water has cleared up.
