(Undated) — Even if you’re a seasoned pro behind the wheel, fog can make driving difficult and even dangerous. Authorities say fog-related accidents cause more than 500 fatalities each year. The National Weather Service is offering some safety tips to make travel safer. They advise you to slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. Make your vehicle visible to others by using your low-beam headlights even during the “daylight” hours. They say if you need to pull off of the road, first turn on your hazard lights, pull your vehicle off to the side of the road as far as possible, turn off all lights except your hazard flashing lights, and set the emergency brake. The key to driving in the fog is to remember that everyone is having trouble seeing. Experts say using your lights appropriately is one of the chief pillars of safe driving in fog.
