Don O’Brien with the Better Business Bureau says scammers want to take advantage of the housing crunch by creating a false sense of urgency. O’Brien says these types of scams are very popular on social media.
O’Brien says many times scammers will use “legit looking” postings complete with pictures. However, once they receive the money through an app like “CashApp” or “Venmo,” they stop responding to messages and disappear.
