(Oblong) – Fiber optic internet is coming to Oblong. According to Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, Metro Communications has informed Oblong Public Works they will begin their fiber optic work in the village soon. Fielder reminds the public that there are going to be many marks and flags in village yards. She says if you remove a utility marking flag from your yard, you are liable for a fine ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 and possible imprisonment. This law is strictly enforced by the Illinois Commerce Commission. She asks that the public please take caution and know there will be many extra contractors and construction going forward in the next few weeks. So slow down and move over to keep everyone safe.
