Drake seen front row at WWE event after postponing tour dates due to “scheduling conflict”

Drake attended WWE’s Elimination Chamber last night, shortly after cancelling his remaining Australian and New Zealand tour dates due to a “scheduling conflict”.

Alongside Lil Yachty, the Canadian-born rapper was seen ringside for last night’s (March 1) event at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, with the appearance coming only days after he pushed back four remaining shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Auckland due to a clash in his schedule.

Having recently made his return to Australia and New Zealand last month for his first tour in eight years, Drake was due to perform in Brisbane on March 4, Sydney on 7 and a pair of shows in Auckland, New Zealand on March 15 and 16.

According to a statement from Drake’s rep to Rolling Stone AU/NZ, the shows will be rescheduled, and additional shows are being planned. The new dates have yet to be confirmed, but will be shared with ticket-holders “as soon as possible”.

Meanwhile, all tickets that have been purchased to the sold-out shows will be honoured for the rescheduled dates, with refund options to be made available for those who prefer.

The ‘God’s Plan’ artist was not acknowledged on camera at yesterday’s event, but pictures of him in attendance began circulating on social media, prompting fans to joke that WWE was “on the wrong side of the kendrick vs drake beef,” with others chiming in to say rival wrestling company AEW should have Kendrick Lamar at one of their events next.

The feud between the two reached a fever pitch recently after Lamar performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, making him the first-ever solo rapper to headline. He used the opportunity to take several shots at Drake, much to the delight of fans.

He made fun of the rapper for suing Universal Music Group for promoting ‘Not Like Us’, teasing the song by quipping: “I want to play their favourite song but you know they like to sue”.

The diss track dropped back in May during Drake and Lamar’s infamous rap battle, in which the latter accused his peer of being “a certified paedophile” (Drake has denied any wrongdoing). The song is widely considered the most successful of the feud, becoming Lamar’s fourth Number One single and smashing numerous streaming records.

When he did eventually perform ‘Not Like Us’, fans on social media took note of the joy on his face when he dropped the line: “Say Drake, I hear you like ’em young”, a moment that has since become a meme that fans have rehashed following his WWE appearance.

As well as becoming Lamar’s fourth Number One single, ‘Not Like Us’ went on to win five Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.

The incendiary track was also crowned the second best song of 2024 by NME, who wrote: “Not Like Us’ packaged intelligent, intensely researched character assassinations into a fierce, booming DJ Mustard-produced club hit. Though his savage, accusatory wordplay grabbed the headlines, it was Lamar’s dissection of Drake as “coloniser” that truly underlined his pure vitriol.”

Elsewhere, in other WWE news, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson debuted a new New Orleans-inspired entrance which featured Lil Wayne‘s ‘Tha Block Is Hot’ in a recent appearance.
