(Undated) — If you have received a text claiming to be from the “Tollway Authority,” it’s a scam. The Illinois Tollway is warning drivers about the texting scam. Officials say the scammers will send texts to people claiming they have unpaid tolls and need to pay immediately. Officials say not to click on the provided link, do not respond to the text, and never provide personal information. This is what’s known as a “phishing scam.” The goal of which is to trick you into giving personal information, such as your password or bank account number. The scammer can then use this information to steal money or commit identity theft. Officials say the best course of action is to just delete the message.
