(Robinson) — Ameren customers in and around Robinson will “see energy at work firsthand.” According to Ameren Illinois Representative Karley Combest, Ameren will begin work on replacing vintage steel pipelines and difficult-to-locate polyethylene natural gas mains “throughout the spring and well into the fall.” This two-million dollar project will aim to replace the old and outdated materials with modern, corrosion-resistant polyethylene. Combest says crews working on behalf of Ameren Illinois will upgrade approximately 2.2 miles of natural gas pipeline and approximately 140 individual customer’s natural gas services primarily from the 1970s and 1980s. The upgrades will occur between King Street and Cross Street and from the INRD Railroad tracks to Emmons Street. She says all work should be completed by the end of October, weather pending. Ameren Illinois is asking motorists driving through these local neighborhoods to be mindful of the trucks moving and employees working near the streets and to slow down in the work zone.
