April is “National Safe Digging Month”

(Undated) — April is “National Safe Digging Month.” Ameren Illinois is reminding the public that dialing “811” will put you in contact with “Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators,” better known as JULIE. Following your call to JULIE, a crew will come out to your property and mark where utility and other lines are so you know where not to dig. Ameren Illinois’ Natural Gas Public Awareness Supervisor, Jake Dukett, says there’s a new amendment to the law that affects the timing of when you call versus when JULIE will be out to stake your property.

Dukett says there are other changes as well, dealing with pre-marking, positive response, and reasonable control measures. The toll-free number is in operation 24 hours a day. You can also put in an e-request for marking through illinois1call.com.
