Mrs. Barbara A. E. (Abbott) Cline, age 77 of Mattoon, IL., died April 25, 2025, 1:30 pm at Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing in Marshall, IL following a long battle with cancer.
Barbara Ann Elizabeth Abbott was born May 3, 1947, in Robinson to Clinton O. and Helen Elizabeth (Newcomb) Abbott, attend Annapolis Grade School and graduated Hutsonville High School in 1965. After graduating high school, Barbara enrolled in the Nursing program at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, IL and graduated with her Certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her passion for caring for others was fulfilled by 43 years of dedicated nursing care in various nursing facilities in the Coles County area.
In 1974, Barbara married John L. Cline and began a life of creating a home and a future for themselves. Although they had no children, their home was always a place of love and warmth for all of Barbara and John’s nieces and nephews and especially their family of cats, two of whom Barbara left behind when she passed on, Rosie and Daisy, now living, with family, in Robinson.
Surviving Barbara are nieces and nephews, Suzanne E. & Jeff Gurley, Robinson, IL; Sandra & Mike Roffee, New Concord, OH; Christy &Jimmy Lee, Seymour, TN; Tracy & Danny Sonntag, Ann Harbor, MI; Greg & Cindy Tomevi, York, PA; Bruce & Denise Tomevi, Flemington, NJ; Todd Tague, Robinson, IL; Olin “Bub” Cline, Mattoon, IL; Connie Donnely, Mattoon, IL. and a very special Cousin, Mrs. Mary Rose Weinrich, Terre Haute, IN; sis-in-law, Mrs. Glenda Girten, Robinson, IL; and several great nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Cline was preceded by her parents, her husband John; 2 stepdaughters; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard O. “Bud” Abbott and Connie J. Abbott; nieces and spouses, Nancy & Gary Tomevi; Amy Tague
Mrs. Cline chose cremation without ceremony and her cremated remains will be interred beside her husband in the Janesville Cemetery, rural Coles County, IL.
