Mr. Max E. “Butch” Dunlap, age 81, of Annapolis, Illinois, passed away at 12:30 p.m. EST on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana, following several months of declining health.
He was born March 31, 1944, in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Lloyd S. Dunlap, Sr. and Elizabeth “Toots” Pointon. He was a 1962 graduate of Palestine High School. On November 30, 1985, he married Donna M. Tall, and she survives.
Butch served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966 as an electrician’s mate. Following his military service, he began a long and distinguished career in hospital engineering. He worked at several institutions, including Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana; Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, Illinois; and St. Anthony’s Hospital (now Union Hospital) in Terre Haute, Indiana. He later joined The Methodist Hospitals Group in Merrillville and Gary, Indiana, serving as Director of Engineering for 18 years before retiring in 2001.
Butch was a faithful member of the Outer West Market Church of Christ in Palestine, Illinois. He was a life member of VFW Post #802 in Hammond, Indiana, where he served as both Commander and Chaplain, and also held membership with AMVETS Post #33 in Palestine.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna M. Dunlap of Annapolis, Illinois; his daughter, Amy Wheeler of Chesterton, Indiana; two sisters, Martha Hunt of Florida and Linda Alonzo of Kingman, Indiana; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, William Charles Dunlap ; his brother, Lloyd S. Dunlap, Jr.; brothers James Tague and Larry Joe Tague; and sister Betty Doyle.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date, with interment of cremated remains in Hardinville Cemetery, Hardinville, Illinois. There will be no public visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson, Illinois.
