(Undated) — The Crawford County Health Department is reminding the public of the importance of the measles vaccination. The CCHD reminds the public that the measles vaccine is safe and effective.
That was CCHD Public Health Administrator, Mikayla Maynard. She says two vaccine doses are 97% effective at preventing measles. The CCHD says currently, there are eight confirmed cases of measles in Illinois, none in Crawford County. They say symptoms show up within 2-8 days of exposure, including a rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, red/watery eyes, and tiredness. The public is reminded that measles can be contagious before showing symptoms, and measles spreads easily through contact with respiratory droplets and via airborne spread.
