Tom Morello has hit out at Donald Trump following his comments towards Bruce Springsteen.
The soloist and Rage Against the Machine guitarist made the comments during a live solo show in Boston this weekend (May 25), where he performed with a ‘FUCK TRUMP” backdrop placed behind him.
During the gig, he addressed the feud between the US President and Bruce Springsteen – which reached new heights earlier this month when the singer-songwriter took to the stage in England and called Trump an “unfit president” and accused him of leading a “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration”.
Trump retaliated by taking to his Truth Social platform and describing Springsteen as a “dried-out prune of a rocker” and “not a talented guy.”
He then insinuated that there could be a federal investigation into the support for Kamala Harris from Springsteen, Oprah, Bono and “many others”, as well as sharing a fake video that showed him knocking over Springsteen with a golf ball.
“Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, he’s been about truth, justice, democracy, equality,” Morello said while on stage (via Independent). “And Trump is mad at him because Bruce draws a bigger audience. Fuck that guy!”

The guitarist – who has toured and performed live with Springsteen multiple times in the past – also quipped that the set in Boston could be the “last big event before they throw us all in jail” and showed that he had written “Fuck ICE” on the back of his guitar.
This isn’t the first time that Morello has hit out at Trump. Back in 2020, the anti-capitalist musician criticised a group of Donald Trump supporters for using Rage Against The Machine‘s ‘Killing In The Name’ to campaign for the president’s re-election.
Before then, Morello called the Republican president an “orange-faced demagogue” in an interview with NME, and then taped the message “Fuck Trump” to the back of his guitar during a performance with Prophets Of Rage at Open’er 2017.
Other artists backing Springsteen amid the backlash from Trump have included Neil Young, who urged the President to “STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT ROCKERS ARE SAYING. Think about saving America from the mess you made”, and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, who insisted that “Part of free speech is open discussion. Part of democracy is healthy public discourse.”
“The name-calling is so beneath us,” he added. “Bruce has always been as pro-American with his values and liberty, and his justice has always remained intact. And I’m saying this now to be sure this freedom to speak will still exist in a year or two when we come back to this microphone.”
In other Tom Morello news, it was recently confirmed that the guitarist will be co-directing an upcoming documentary about Judas Priest. Before that, though, he will be serving as “musical director” for Black Sabbath’s final gig this July. He’s teased “huge superstars” as “surprises” for the show, and other artists lined-up for the one-off event include Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb Of God, Tool, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Guns N’ Roses, Halestorm, Gojira and more.
