The creator of The Handmaid’s Tale has responded to rumours that Taylor Swift had a cameo in a recent episode.
Some thought they had spotted the star in the opening of episode nine of the sixth and final season, when a member of the Mayday rebellion gets out of a vehicle that Elisabeth Moss’ June and other handmaids are using to get to safety.
The suspected Swift can only be seen from the back, and in silhouette, but fans thought the person’s walk alone was enough to indicate it was her.
TikTok Swifties are convinced this is Taylor in the handmaids tale clip and I just don’t see it? They say the walk looks identical but I think it’s just confirmation bias honestly but maybe that’s just me

Speaking to Variety, producer Bruce Miller was told about the rumours and asked outright whether Swift had a cameo. He responded: “I can’t say anything. I’m not allowed to say anything.”
When the interviewer said that not saying anything makes the speculation worse, he said: “All right, I’m good at making things worse – that’s how I make all of my money.”
In an interview with TVLine, The Handmaid’s Tale star, director and producer Moss was more clear. When initially presented with the theory, she said, regarding the Swift fans: “No, wait. What do you mean? I literally don’t know about this. Yes, I’m listening. God, I love them.”
Moss then continued: “Of course it’s not her. Oh my God, that’s hilarious. I love that idea, though. I’m afraid that’s not Taylor. She’s pretty busy. I feel like if she was going to come do our show, we would’ve made sure we saw her face.”
Online chatter about Swift’s appearance in the show was fuelled by the needle drop of a new version of her song ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ during the scene.
Speaking about the use of the track, Moss told Billboard: “I’ve been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her, and I’m so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment”.
She continued: “Taylor has been such an inspiration to me personally. As a Swiftie myself, and I think I can speak for (co-star) Yvonne (Strahovski) and our entire cast as well, who are all Swifties, it’s such an honour to be able to use her music in the final episodes of our show”.
“I said to my editor, Wendy, ‘I really want to find a place for a Taylor track in the last two episodes of the show’ and we wanted to find a music cue for the opening of nine, and all the credit goes to Wendy for picking this track for this moment!”
