Local Authorities Remind the Public Solicitors Must Have Permits

(Undated) – ‘Tis the season for door-to-door solicitors and local authorities are reminding the public that anyone coming to your door to solicit must have verification. Oblong Police Chief, Colton Williamson, says in order to go door-to-door, solicitors must have checked in with him and have been given written permission to solicit. He says to ask to see their identification, and if they cannot produce confirmation, kindly inform them that they need to check in with the Oblong Police Department. The rules are the same in Robinson. Solicitors must have a “Solicitor’s Permit” issued by the Robinson Police Department to legally sell items door-to-door. The process includes a background check of the applicant. This permit includes the solicitor’s name, business name, and the Chief of Police’s signature. Permits are only valid for the days listed on their permit. Authorities remind the public to never show anyone anything with your name, social security number, or account information on it. You are not required to disclose any information or even answer the door.
