(Undated) — The Better Business Bureau is reminding the public to look out for “ticket scams.” Warmer temperatures mean an increase in scammers taking advantage of high-demand tickets for popular shows and festivals during the summer months. According to the BBB, fraudsters often create fake social media profiles or advertisements appearing to resell tickets. However, those tickets are often nonexistent or counterfeited. BBB Investigator, Don O’Brien, says it’s up to you to investigate a seller to be sure they are legit.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, nearly one in three people who reported fraud said they lost money. Those who reported scams lost nearly $2 billion in social media scams, with over $2 million alone going towards ticket scams.
