Danny R. Stifle, 72, of Robinson, IL, died on June 16, 2025, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.
Danny was the kind of man you didn’t forget-part grit, part heart, and all in when it came to the people and things he loved. Born on July 7, 1952, in Hammond, IN, to Orville E. “Bones” and Helen May (McCormick) Stifle, Danny grew up in Crawford County, where he learned early on the value of hard work, a good story, and the great outdoors.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Danny carried a deep sense of service and loyalty throughout his life. After his time in the military, he found work as a union insulator and pipefitter, though “work” never defined him as much as the spirit he brought to it. He wasn’t one to stay in one place too long-jumping from job to job, even relocating to Kentucky for a stretch-but he always found his way back to Crawford County, the place that felt most like home.
Danny had a way of turning everyday moments into something memorable. He loved hunting, fishing, and taking long drives just to scout for deer. He could wheel and deal with the best of them, but what really lit him up was a good demolition derby. It didn’t matter how banged up he was-if there was a derby happening, Danny was in the driver’s seat.
But perhaps what defined him most was his generosity. Danny was always helping someone-especially kids-quietly stepping in when needs arose, never asking for recognition. And if you had a few minutes to spare, Danny had a story ready-usually delivered with a twinkle in his eye and just enough exaggeration to make you wonder. You never knew where the truth ended and the tall tale began, but that was part of the fun. His stories didn’t just entertain; they brought people together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Mike Stifle, and his nephew, Chris Stifle.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Baud Stifle, whom he married on April 19, 2024; by his children, Justin & Andrea Stifle, Jason & Jaclyn Stifle, and Jody Stifle; by his grandchildren, Brooklynn Stifle, Dashaun Stifle, Jesus Stifle, Allen Stifle, Ransom Stifle, Chelsea & Jeremie Locklin, Brianna Stifle and Trevor Stifle; and by his great-grandchildren, Bryson Stifle, Kingston Stifle, Hazel Rhinehart, Zylas Stifle and Avalynn Locklin. He is also survived by his step-children, Eric & Breyanna Weaver and Crystal & Slim White; step-grandchildren, Ariana Weaver, Vance White, and Brody White; his sister, Rebecca “Becky” Stifle; and several nieces and nephews.
