(Undated) – If you’ve traveled through the area recently, you’ve no doubt come across some dedicated bike riders. The riders are part of the “Race Across America.” According to event organizers, for 43 years, “Race Across America” (RAAM) has been challenging ultra cyclists from around the globe to push their physical and mental limits to the farthest reaches. Starting in Oceanside, under one of the longest piers in California, RAAM spans over 3000 miles, climbs 175,000 feet, crosses 13 states, and finishes on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Solo riders began the journey on June 10th, and team riders began on June 14th. Solo racers have just twelve days, and relay teams have just nine days to complete the journey to the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Authorities are reminding drivers to take extra caution when approaching riders and their support vehicles. You can follow the riders’ journeys in real time at the link below.
