(Undated) – Summer is here and that means more time outside in the sun. Crawford Memorial Hospital is reminding the public to be generous when applying sunscreen. They say most adults need about one ounce of sunscreen to fully cover their bodies. They say you should apply sunscreen to dry skin fifteen minutes before going outside and reapply an ounce, or the equivalent of a shot glass, every two hours if you are in direct sunlight. The American Academy of Dermatology says everyone is at risk of getting skin cancer. They say about 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime. However, skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. They say when you protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, you reduce your risk of developing skin cancer as well as premature skin aging.
