Bill L. Waggoner

Bill L. Waggoner, 82, of Oblong, passed away at 4:50 PM on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson.

He was born January 30, 1943, in Petty Township, Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Willard Burl Waggoner and Dorothy Lucile Miles. On February 20, 1998, he married Carla Kay Goss in Olney, Illinois, and she survives in Oblong.

Bill is also survived by his four children, Stacy (Lorilee) Waggoner, Lisa (Jim) Weaver, Tara (Bud) Rains, and Trevor (Jonna) Waggoner; and by his two stepchildren, Jessica Musgrave and Denver (Abby) Musgrave. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Jordan (Krystina) Waggoner, Jared (Kierston) Waggoner, Jailyn (Andy) Mitzelfelt, Justin Weaver, Jessica Waggoner, Sydney (Ethan) Caldwell, Sierra (Kathryn) Coleman, and Aydin Musgrave, and a great-grandfather to nine.

He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (Marge) Waggoner and Bob Waggoner; his sister, Connie (Jeff) Arnspaugh; and sisters-in-law, Patsy Waggoner and Barbara Waggoner. On Carla’s side of the family, he is survived by Richard (Ronnie) Goss, Terry (Jane) Goss, Mike (Angie) Goss, Diane Kurpiel, Poodie (Mark) Zumbahlem, Tammy (John) Kistner, Keith Goss, and Lenny (Chris) Goss.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ryan Waggoner; one sister, Tonia Stringfellow; three brothers, Dick Waggoner, Jim Waggoner, and Dee Waggoner; and one brother-in-law, Gary Goss.

Bill graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1961. He worked for McDonald Oil Company for over 25 years before owning and operating two oil companies with his longtime business partner, Joey Allen, for over 37 years. He continued in the industry until selling the business in 2022. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bill enjoyed umpiring baseball, softball, and both boys’ and girls’ basketball for many years.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, with Brother Phil Boyd officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM prior to the service.
