Mattoon Lifts “Don’t Drink Order”

(Mattoon) — The City of Mattoon has lifted its “don’t drink order.” The order was put in place after testing showed the city’s water was possibly contaminated with a harmful algal bloom. According to City Officials, water sample results from testing on Saturday showed a decreased level of algal bloom. The City says they have completed flushing of the municipal water system. However, before using tap water, residents should flush all cold-water lines for five to ten minutes, discard all ice and replace water filters, and flush hot water lines separately for five to ten minutes.
