(Mattoon) — The “Do Not Use” order in Mattoon is likely to continue into the weekend. Mattoon residents are being reminded that the City water is not safe to drink. Per an alert sent to Mattoon residents from the Illinois EPA, it would take two consecutive tests to confirm the water conditions have improved to safe, drinkable conditions. In the meantime, bottled water is being made available for free each day at Lytle Park and Arland D. Williams Elementary School between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Residents are reminded to use only bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice, and preparing food. Do not attempt to treat the water yourself. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants, or letting water stand will not make the water safe.
